Major Douglas B. Bathe, USAR Retired

 

Douglas Brian Bathe, 60, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017.

Doug was born June 15, 1957 in Portland, Oregon and spent the better part of his life in Arroyo Grande, CA.

He attended the local schools and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1975. He also attended Cuesta College and graduated   with a degree in automotive technology.

He began his lifelong career in the military in 1975.  He served in the Marine Corps, CA Army National Guard and the Army Reserve.

In 1976, Doug married his high school sweet-heart, Mary Ann Fernamburg of Arroyo Grande, together they had two sons.

In addition to his military life he enjoyed farming.  He was able to incorporate his farming knowledge during his two deployments as a Civil Affairs Agricultural Officer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Bathe of Arroyo Grande; their sons, David Bathe of Santa Maria and Brian Bathe of Arroyo Grande.  Four siblings, Donald (& Lisa) Bathe, Jr. of Mesa, Arizona; Tina (& Randy) Baldwin of Arroyo Grande; Deland “Lanny” Bathe of Arroyo Grande; Daniel C. (& Shonda) Bathe of Fredericktown, Missouri.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death were his parents,  Donald F. Bathe, Sr. and Germaine H. Bathe, of Missouri.

Graveside service will be held at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park at 11 am on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Reception will be held at the Pismo Beach Veterans’ Memorial Building after the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall- Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel of Grover Beach. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10978,  P.O. Box 63, Nipomo, CA  93444.
