William Vance Bennett passed away on January 22, 2025, in San Francisco, California. He was born on November 2, 1953, in Oakland, CA.
A life devoted to service, Vance spent 26 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, followed by 31 years as an instructor with the California Specialized Training Institute under the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. His dedication, both professional and personal, left a lasting impression on all who knew him. For more than three decades, Vance was an active and cherished member of his local church community, from warmly welcoming newcomers at the door to teaching kids in Sunday School.
Vance valued time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought energy and joy to his life. He also had a passion for travel, exploring fascinating locales and immersing himself in the history and culture of more than two dozen countries.
Vance is survived by his loving wife, Phyliss Bennett; his mother, Patricia Snyder; his son, Christopher Bennett; his daughter, Carissa Bockhahn; his sisters, Julie Senegor and Nancy Seaton; and his brother, Alan Bennett. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Levi and Hannah Bockhahn, and Jack, Sam, and Grace Bennett.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on February 1, 2025, at Shadow Mountain Community Church Central Coast Campus, located at 153 S. 9th St., Grover Beach, CA 93433.
