It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Garth McCann, known as Bill to his family and friends. Bill passed away with his loving wife Paulette at his side on May 8, 2022 at the Arroyo Grande Community Hospital in California. Bill was born November 14, 1936 in Birtle, Manitoba and spent the first eleven years of his life in both the Solsgirth, Manitoba and Birtle, Manitoba area before moving with his family to White Rock, British Columbia in 1947. Here he assisted his parents running a Daffodil farm up until 1950 when the family moved to South Burnaby, BC. Upon graduating High School from Burnaby South High in 1954 Bill moved to Eugene, Oregon to pursue a career with National Cash Register (NCR) for whom he spent the remainder of his career retiring after 37 years.
Bill was an avid golfer with a single digit handicap. He was noted for his fierce competitiveness and a stickler for the rules. He was also very good at both water and snow skiing. After his retirement from NCR Bill volunteered restoring old computers for Computers for Kids, working with Arroyo Grande in Bloom and a member/volunteer with the South County Historical Society.
Bill was preceded by his parents Horace George McCann (2000) and Dorothy Rose McCann (2016), his brother Arthur George McCann (1985) and his daughter Bonnie Rose McCann (2018).
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Paulette , his children Victoria Bradford of Vancouver, Washington, his son and daughter-in-law Mark and Leigh McCann of Punta Gorda, FL his son William McCann and girlfriend Tara Pennington of Arroyo Grande, CA, his granddaughter Morgan Vail (Kyle) of Vancouver, WA, and his granddaughter Alexandra Walsh (Matt) and great grandson Kieran of Camus, WA. He will also be dearly missed by his siblings and their families, Arnold McCann (wife Mary) of Cranbrook, British Columbia and Irene Dixon (husband Ken) of Rossland, British Columbia, Canada.
At Bill’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead think of him as you are playing a round of golf or as you volunteer.
