Vernon Leroy Frederick Pismo Beach, Ca. died August 13, 2022

Vernon was born September 18, 1922 in Wessington Springs, South Dakota to Lyman and Marie Frederick. When Vernon was 17 the family moved to Anaheim, Ca. and he graduated from Anaheim High School in 1940 then continued on to Cal Poly San Dimas where his College education was interrupted by WWII. His entry into the Army was April 1943 serving in New Guinea, the Philippines and Australia, receiving an Honorable discharge Dec 24, 1945 as a Sergeant of the 738th Military Police.

Upon discharge Vernon restarted his education at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Ca. and graduated with a degree in Agriculture inspection in June 1947. He met and married Jeanne Wilkinson August 27, 1948 and moved to Anaheim upon receiving a job offer to teach agriculture in the Fullerton School district, where he ultimately retired after approximately 35 years. During his tenure he became Agricultural director over the five high schools in the district.   

Vernon and Jeanne raised their three children in Yorba Linda, where shortly before retirement from teaching he started a choose and cut Christmas tree farm “Santa’s Forest”. He ran this business with his son Michael and three other partners for 25 years. 

In 1994 Vernon and Jeanne moved back to the Central Coast where they built their home in Pismo Beach. Vernon was a life time member of the Lions Club, a member of RAMS, and a member of South County Historical Society.

Vernon is survived by his three children, Cathrynn Frederick of La Habra Ca, Paul and (Nora) Frederick of Capistrano Beach Ca, and Michael and (Jeannie) Frederick of Arroyo Grande, Ca, three grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman, Marie and his wife Jeanne of nearly 74 years.

Cremation has taken place by Marshall-Spoo Mortuary, Grover Beach.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to an Alzheimer’s Association.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 1, 2022 for both Vernon and Jeanne.

 

Jeanne Eulora Frederick (Wilkinson) native of Arroyo Grande, Ca died June 22, 2022.

Jeanne was born September 30, 1926 in Arroyo Grande to Paul and Rachel Wilkinson. Her father owned and operated Wilkinson Meat market in the Village.  Jeanne graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1944 and attended San Jose State for 2 years. 

Jeanne eloped to Reno Nevada with Vernon Frederick August 27, 1948 after Vernon left a bag of oranges on her parent’s doorstep. Vernon always said he got the better end of that deal. Shortly after their elopement they moved to Anaheim Ca, and then onto Yoba Linda, Ca where they lived and raised their family for approximately 45 years. Jeanne enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling with friends.

In 1994 Vernon and Jeanne moved back to the central coast and built their home in Pismo Beach. She became a docent with the Historical Society of Arroyo Grande and volunteered with several groups and organizations, including Newcomers.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Rachael and a sister Veryle. 

She is survived by her husband of nearly 74 years Vernon, her children Cathrynn Frederick of La Habra, Ca, Paul & (Nora) Frederick of Capistrano Beach, Ca, Michael & (Jeannie) Frederick of Arroyo Grande, Ca three grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
