Sonia Harrower Wagner

Sonia H. Wagner died peacefully on Tuesday, March 14th, at the age of 92, surrounded by loved ones.

Sonia was well known for her strength, warmth and generosity. She was deeply loved by her family and many members of her community.

She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church since 1972, an active member of the Italian Catholic Federation and an avid supporter of Outreach Food Pantry.

A long-time resident of the Central Coast, Sonia and her husband, Jens, owned and operated Arroyo Drug Co. and the Fudge Factory in the village of Arroyo Grande for nearly 40 years.

Sonia was a woman of many, varied pursuits and believed in bettering her community: she was a 4-H leader, president of the Ladies Pharmacy Auxiliary, Poison Prevention educator, school bus driver for St. Joseph High School, served on the Parking and Traffic Commission in Arroyo Grande, outside sales rep for many years, and precinct captain for San Luis Obispo County Elections.

She loved to travel, and took many trips with her husband, Jens, and their various children over the years. She enjoyed visiting Italy, Poland, Canada, and many states, especially Alaska. She loved to camp and was a great softball player.

Sonia is survived by her 6 children: Philomena Greger (Joseph), Catharine Steen, Greta Bertolini (Paolo), Jens P. Wagner, Rita Wagner, and Roxanne Stedman (Steven). She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Ingrid Greger, Brietta Greger, Elsa Greger, Elizabeth Steen, Caroline Steen,  Cinzia Bertolini, Andrea Wagner, Christina Wagner, Jens Daniel Wagner, Stephanie Reed-Lemke, Ryan Reed, Wesley Stedman, and Walter Stedman, many nieces and nephews, and her sister, Maggie Burton. Her loving husband of 67 years, Jens E. Wagner, preceded her in death in 2021.

A Rosary service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church on Sunday, March 19th at 7:30 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s on Monday, March 20th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Outreach Food Pantry.
