Shirley J. Bace
March 6, 1937 – April 25, 2022
Shirley (Becker)Bace went home to our Lord on April 25th, 2022. Shirley passed peacefully with family at her side after a stroke and a week’s stay at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, she was 85 years old. Shirley was a loving person and a caring Christian woman, she prayed for everyone! Born in Los Angeles, Shirley lived in Ohio for a time, then moved to the Pismo Beach area as a teenager. She met and married her husband of 62 years while attending Arroyo Grande High School. The “so in love” couple eloped to Arizona and were married during Christmas break of their senior year, graduating in 1956 as newlyweds. Shirley attended cosmetology school shortly after, obtaining her license while also earning several awards in Los Angeles competitions for her hair styling skills. She went on to work as a beautician for several years. Eventually Shirley left outside work to become a full-time stay-at-home mother, wife and homemaker which occupied the bulk of her time. Shirley and Del spent most of their years in Arroyo where Delbert had his own contracting business (Bace Construction) and also served as superintendent for several large construction agencies. They enjoyed spending time with their close-knit family, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Throughout Shirley’s life she also enjoyed many hobbies and activities; designing and sewing clothes, interior designing, scrapbooking, bowling in leagues at Pismo Bowl (with both her husband Del and with her girlfriends), RV camping, reading, listening to music and even dabbled in the stock market. She was also active with her church and loved her Lord Jesus Christ.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Delbert Bace (2/24/17) and (4) siblings.
Shirley is survived by her three children; her daughter Chyrisa Bace Allen (Michael) of San Diego, and her two sons Calvin Bace and Chad Bace of Arroyo Grande, two sisters, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many other family members and dear friends. She is profoundly missed by all, but we take great comfort in knowing she is reunited with loved ones and is waiting for us in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held for Shirley on Friday June 24th, 2 pm at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel of Grover Beach, immediately followed by a gathering for refreshments at the same locations. Friends and family welcome.
