Sadie Mary Finley Krovious, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong community servant, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born on June 8, 1928, in Washington, Kansas, to Charles Earl Finley and Reta Correll Finley.
In 1937, the Finley family relocated to Green River, Wyoming, however, due to the harsh weather, they moved to Pismo Beach, California in May 1937. Sadie attended Pismo Beach Elementary School until the fall of 1942, when her father joined the Navy. Sadie spent her junior high years in San Francisco. After World War II, the family returned to Pismo Beach. Sadie graduated from Arroyo Grande Union High School in 1947 as a lifetime member of the California Scholarship Federation.
Sadie’s early career began at the high school where she worked for seven years before marrying her husband, Jim Krovious, in 1951. Together, they raised a family. After having children, Sadie worked at Bank of America in the village of Arroyo Grande. In 1961, she began working as the secretary at Oceano Elementary School. In 1966, she moved to the Lucia Mar Unified School District, and worked in an office that had previously been her 6th grade classroom. In 1973, Sadie became the school secretary at Margaret Harloe Elementary. As the school secretary she was beloved by faculty and students. While at Harloe, she made birthday cakes for the staff. Making desserts was something she enjoyed doing. She retired from the school district in 1980, to spend time with her arriving grandchildren, with more than 24 years of service.
In her retirement, Sadie remained active in the community, contributing more than 5,000 volunteer hours, in 30 years to the Arroyo Grande Hospital Auxiliary and staying engaged with the local Women’s Club. She enjoyed sewing especially bibs, shirts and pajamas. A lover of travel, Sadie cherished her vacations, especially cruises to the Caribbean, the Mexican coast, the Panama Canal, and Alaska.
Sadie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Krovious, and her parents, Earl and Reta Finley. She is survived by her sons: Michael Krovious and wife, Leslie, and Patrick Krovious and wife, Debbie. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brooke Martinez, Ashley Beem, Wendy Martinez, Jennifer Newsom, and Lisa Camassa, as well as 10 great-grandchildren: Fiona, Donovan, Gabriella, Eleanora, Sophia, Genevieve, Alex, Cody, Macy, and Mia.
Sadie’s life was a testament to her love for family, her dedication to her community, and her unwavering spirit of service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
