Resided - Arroyo Grande, CA & Engelhard, NC
Rick Cahoon, 78, of Arroyo Grande CA, and part time resident of Engelhard NC, died Wednesday April 17, 2024, after being diagnosed with terminal lung and brain cancer.
Rick was born on April 30th, 1945, to Ephron and Sarah Cahoon in Bremerton WA. After graduating from Norview high school in 1963, he went on to study mechanical engineering at NC State, where he became a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and got his engineering degree in 1968. Rick retired as a mechanical engineer for Westinghouse, working primarily on nuclear power plant construction. His career led him to travel the world, spending spans of time in places like Japan, Sweden and Denmark.
Rick was an avid windsurfer for over 30 years of his life, going out and enjoying the sport primarily in Harvey Soundside Access in Nags Head NC, and riding the wind well into his 70’s. Ever the outdoorsman, Rick loved being in the sun, bike riding, visiting with friends and loved ones over coffee, and taking runs on the beach.
He is survived by his brother-in-law David Brugato, and adoring Niece Audrey Wright and her two daughters.
