Randy Price Obituary

The memorial service for Randy will be at the Arroyo Grande  Association Hall (The Portuguese Hall), Huasna Rd at Highway 227 in Arroyo Grande on Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at Noon where a reception will immediately follow.

Randy Wayne Price was born on November 5, 1951 in Bakersfield, CA.  When he was five years old his family moved to Arroyo Grande, where he would spend his entire life.  Randy enjoyed an idyllic childhood, riding his horse in the hills of Corbett Canyon, target practicing and trail riding.  Randy attended local elementary schools and graduated AGHS in 1970.  While there he played on the football and tennis teams as well as joining FFA on the rodeo team where he team roped and rode bulls.  He quickly realized team roping was better and safer than riding bulls.  Randy was also one of the founding members of Brush Poppers Riding Club.  Horses were his first love.  He spent whatever spare time he had at roping’s and trail riding on the beach.

Randy was a man of many talents.  As a teenager Randy helped his dad build houses.  This grew into an occupation, and he soon started his own company.  Many homes here on the Central Coast were built with his hands.  In his early 30’s he graduated from the Police Academy, became a Pismo Beach Police Officer and soon after became a Correctional Officer at CMC.  When he retired CMC, he followed in his mother’s footsteps and became a Bus Driver and Trainer for Lucia Mar.  He also drove for Silverado and RTA.  Randy was a Karate expert and he loved to sing Karaoke.   Randy also enjoyed his Harley.  With his cousin David Saavedra, they traveled California and other states with their sleeping bags attached.

In 1971 Randy married Marion Wilson and became an instant stepfather to Jennifer Chavez.  His precious Tammi arrived soon after.  In 1980 Randy married Shelly Hill and became stepfather to Emily and Billy.

As his family grew, he gave up horses to support his family.  It was Tammi who persuaded him to get back into it.  He trained Kommotion, then Twister.  He taught Tammi to ride and rope and that was all she wrote!  Soon after, their Paint horse, Amanda was born.  He trained her and she became his top roping horse.  Some of Randy and Tammi’s best times were spent team roping at the BS Arena in Nipomo.  Randy loved competing at the Elks Rodeo.  Another passion of Randy’s was sorting and branding cattle.  He was always the first to arrive on branding day, itching to gather and sort cattle.

In 2002 Randy met Rosana Wilson through mutual horse friends.  They spent the next 20 plus years together, riding horses, Harleys and living their best lives together.

In 2009 Tammi gave birth to Randi Lyn.  She quickly became his pride and joy.  He spent every spare minute he had with her.  He loved teaching her to ride horses, ride 4-wheelers, shoot a rifle, drive a tractor, drive his old green Chevy pick-up and go riding on his Harley with him.

Randy is survived by his partner in life, Rosana Wilson.  His daughter Tammi Joanne Price, granddaughter Randi Lyn Price-McIndoe.  His sister Coleen (Richard) Kubel.  His cousin David (Chris) Saavedra.  His niece Shelly (Charles) Horton, nephew Michael Kubel, their kids and numerous cousins.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis Wayne and Viola Price.

Memorials in Randy's honor may be in the form of donations to his family.
