Philip Paonessa Obituary

"On behalf of the Paonessa family: Philip Anthony Paonessa was born in Santa Monica, CA, and spent his life bringing fun, laughter, and music to everyone around him. He passed away in Arroyo Grande, CA, surrounded by the family he loved so much.

Phil was the kind of person who could light up a room. Throughout his 71 years, he cheered heavily for the Green Bay Packers, he was a mobile DJ and a proud member of “The Independent Bugs Volkswagen Association” car club, a former Elks Lodge Member in San Luis Obispo, a Moose Lodge member in Pismo Beach, an avid Salesman in everything he did, and was always happiest when surrounded by his people. Whether he was on the mic cracking jokes or laughing with friends and family, Phil had a way of making every gathering memorable. He loved deeply, laughed often, and never missed a chance to have a good time.

The greatest love of Phil’s life was his wife, Elena. They met in Long Beach in the late 80s, and from the moment he saw her, he knew she was the one. Over the years, they built a life full of laughter, love, and lots of adventure. Just a few days before his passing, they celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on December 12. Though Phil could be as stubborn as hell, he always knew he was in good hands with Elena, who cared for him with boundless love and dedication, especially in his later years.

Phil’s biggest pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elena; his daughters, Kelly, Katie and Christina; and his first children, Anthony “Tony” Ellis and Dina Ellis. He leaves behind countless memories that his family and friends will cherish forever—moments filled with his laughter, his big MC personality, and his endless love.

Phil was the middle child of Anthony “Tony” Paonessa and Bettie Paonessa, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his two sisters, Maurine “Mo” Paonessa and Carole Belmore, who shared many cherished memories with him over the years.

Details about Phil’s celebration of life will be shared at a later time. In honor of his incredible spirit, the family invites you to remember him with a smile, a laugh, and a song that reminds you of him to share among loved ones."
