Pauline Margaret Furtado

Pauline Margaret Furtado, 95, of San Luis Obispo passed away on June 9th, 2024, peacefully at her home following a short battle with cancer.

The youngest daughter of 7 children, born to Manuel and Mary Pereira in Santa Maria, CA. She graduated from Santa Maria High School.

Pauline married John Furtado and lived the rest of her life in their home in Edna Valley, south of San Luis Obispo. She was blessed with 3 children. Pauline dedicated her life to her family and home, making them her top priority. She supported her children’s endeavors in music, 4H, FFA and Girl Scouts. She volunteered as room mother for years at Los Ranchos Elementary School and worked as a Poll Worker for over 20 years. She served as secretary at for the local UPEC chapter.

While living in the Edna Valley, her hobbies and interests included gardening, preserving jams, making pies with family and friends, crocheting, sewing and most importantly spending time with her family. She was proud of her Portuguese Heritage growing up on her parent’s dairy farm and visiting her parents’ roots in the Azores Islands. She was the last family historian who remembered everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries and family connections.

She is survived by Son John Jr, (Maria) Benicia CA, daughters Patty (Paul) Quinlan, Arroyo Grande and Mary (Kevin) McNealley. Santa Maria and grandchildren Chris Furtado (Becka)

Atascadero, and Katrina McCullough, Long Beach and Her great-grandchildren Gavin, Logan and Riley Furtado; and Ethan, Cece and Theo McCoullough-Byrne. Plus, numerous nieces and nephews from the Pereira and Furtado Families. Pauline is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Sr, Siblings, Bert Pereira, Manuel Pereira, Lawrence Pereira, Lorraine Marciel, Belle Day and Mary Silveria.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 18, from 4 to 7 pm at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel. 1239 Longbranch Ave, Grover Beach, CA. A rosary will follow at 7 pm. Mass will be at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande on Wednesday June 19th at 12:00 pm with burial following at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery. A reception will be held at Trinity Hall, 6565 Edna Road, San Luis Obispo, CA.
