Michelle Seybert Obituary

Michelle Lynn Seybert, RN, 57, of Grover Beach passed away on January 12th, 2024.  The daughter of John and Beverly (Hall) Seybert, Michelle was born in March 1966 in Granite City, Illinois. She spent her middle- and high school years in Cincinnati and earned her BA in Rhetoric from the University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign. After working 25 years as a massage therapist, Michelle launched a second career in 2018 upon graduating from the nursing program at Santa Barbara City College.  For the past five years, she served on the nursing staff at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, where she was a caring, compassionate provider for her patients, as well as a protective, loving, fun, and much admired co-worker.

Michelle met her future wife and love of her life, Ann Frances Maliszewski in 2006. They shared many experiences and passions over the next 18 years, including parenting a multi-species assortment of rescue animals; making meals together; hanging out at their favorite coffee shops, beaches, and camping spots; adventure travel; making each other laugh; raging at injustice; and thriving in the company of an incredible community of friends.

Michelle lived to be outdoors.  She was an avid and accomplished road cyclist & mountain biker, surfer, hiker, backpacker, and fearless waterfall jumper.  She danced with abandon, sang and played her heart out, read voraciously, and cared deeply about those less fortunate and about the state of the world that we will pass on to future generations.  She has been described by dear friends as “a force of nature, spontaneous, resilient, a true free spirit, a leader, a sister, honest to the core, generous, deeply affectionate and loyal, fiercely protective of those she loved, generous, able to strike a balance between taking care of herself and taking care of her loved ones, and someone who found it easy to access her joy and to bring out joy in others through her infectious enthusiasm.”

Michelle is preceded in death by her parents, brother John Seybert, and brother-in-law Richard Dorsel.  She is survived by sisters Leslie Dorsel and Kim Seybert; brother Keith (Jane) Seybert; nephews Jacob, Seth, Adam and Luke; and niece/goddaughter Aurora.

A private celebration of Michelle’s life will be held in April of this year.  For those wishing to make donations in her honor, please consider supporting the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo, one of Michelle’s favorite non-profits.

While our hearts ache from the loss of her rich presence in our lives, Michelle’s big and beautiful spirit will always be there as a beacon of inspiration.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
