Michael Carroll Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael "Mike" Carroll, a remarkable man whose life was defined by kindness, integrity, and service to others. Mike passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 79 with his family by his side.

Mike was born on March 11, 1945, in Tehachapi, California and raised in Santa Barbara. He pursued his education at Santa Barbara City College and Kansas University, where he laid the foundation for a fulfilling 50-year career as a dedicated pharmacist.

Mike was married for 53 wonderful years to the love of his life, Joanne Nelles Carroll, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family.

He is survived by his brother, Frank, and his cherished children and their spouses: David, Julie, Noble, Beth, Andy, and Christie. Mike was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Jane, Lauren, Max, Shane, and John, each of whom brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

A lifetime volunteer, Mike’s life was a testament to selfless service. Whether helping a friend or a stranger, he always sought out opportunities to lend a hand, often taking on tasks others avoided. He was deeply involved in his community during his retirement, spending his time maintaining trails at the Pismo Preserve, serving with the Outreach program at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and visiting inmates at the California Men’s Colony.

Mike had a passion for the outdoors, finding peace in walking with friends, tending to his yard, or simply being by the water. His faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted and active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he was a beloved member of the parish.

Above all, Mike treasured his family. He often spoke with pride about his grandchildren and their accomplishments, ensuring their stories brought smiles to everyone he met.

Mike’s unwavering commitment to his faith, family, and community will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a shining example of love, humility, and service.

A rosary will be said at Marshall-Spoo on Tuesday February 11th at 6 pm  and a funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande, California, on Wednesday February 12th at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Land Conservancy, in honor of Mike’s legacy of service and compassion.
