MARY JANE MONTGOMERY

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Jane Montgomery, age 97, of Arroyo Grande, on March 15, 2023.

A viewing will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel.

The Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Arroyo Grande Cemetery.

Mary Jane was born on Nov. 6, 1925 in Fellows, California to George and Eva Hendrix. She graduated from Arroyo Grande High School.

She was married in 1942 to the love of her life, Cecil Earl Montgomery, for 62 wonderful years.

If you were lucky enough to meet her, you know— she was hilarious! So fun, loving, generous, selfless, compassionate, incredibly sharp and witty!

She was a dancing machine, who enjoyed life to the fullest. She had a gift of making everyone laugh and feel welcome.

She loved her family fiercely and was our #1 fan! Her legacy was her unwavering faith to our Lord; and her devotion to her family, which was built on character, integrity, and values. She was an amazing cook and was the creator of our family’s secret seasoning, which is literally everybody’s favorite!

She loved growing her beautiful orchids, and sharing her delicious avocados. Mary Jane was a pillar in our family and her community. And she was loved by all who were blessed to know her.

“Jane” is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Pam Montgomery; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and Gary Hubschman; grandsons and (wife’s); Jeff and Jasmine Montgomery, Jon and Jen Montgomery, and Joey and Trish Montgomery; great grandchildren, Luke Earl, Lily Jane, Keala Blue, Kai Christopher, and Camellia Ann Montgomery; and many beloved nieces and nephews and friends.

“Jane” was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; an infant daughter, Susan Irene; her mother and father “Mom and Pop”; and sisters, Ella Mae and Georgie O’Connor.
