Marvin Fredrick Ormonde

Marvin F. Ormonde of Arroyo Grande, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family following a long battle with dementia.

  Marvin was born to Frank and Marie Ormonde in 1933 in the Ormonde farmhouse located in Oak Park Canyon. He was the only son in the family of eight children.

 He was a lifelong resident of Arroyo Grande, attended Oak Park School and Arroyo Grande High School where he graduated in the class of 1952.

While in high school, Marvin met his future spouse Minnie. They were married in 1953 in the old St. Patrick’s Church.

During his high school years, he was an active member of FFA and won a national welding award for his design and fabrication of a bulldozer attachment for the family Caterpillar tractor.

Marvin was a skilled operating engineer and a member of the Local 12 Union for over 30 years.  He was also a farmer, cattleman, talented welder, mechanic and was fascinated with all types of machinery.

Marvin was hardworking, kindhearted, friendly, outgoing and known for his witty sense of humor. He will be missed by all.

He is survived by Minnie, his wife of 65 years, their children, Fred (Tracie), John (Vickie), Roger (Jeannie), Bob, Marty (Laurie), Patty Hanson (Eric), Joan Ackerman (Marty), Tony( Sabrina), son-in-law Gary Atkinson, 24 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his sisters Mabel Silva, Florence Terry, Frances Woeste, Ruth Campbell and Louella Saldivar.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Marie Ormonde, sisters Lucille Cordeiro, Marie Carricaburu, daughter Carol Marie Atkinson, and great-granddaughter Zoe.

Visitation will be held Sunday November 25, 2018 from 4 to 6 pm at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel.

The vigil service will start at 6 p.m.on Sunday, November 25 at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel.

Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande on Monday, November 26 at 10 am.
