Keith Sanbonmatsu Obituary

Keith Shigeru Sanbonmatsu passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021. He died from injuries he
suffered in an unfortunate traffic accident while enjoying a ride on his motorcycle.

Keith was born on June 18, 1952 in San Luis Obispo to Mitsuo and Nami Sanbonmatsu. He was
raised in the beautiful community of Arroyo Grande surrounded by his cousins, uncles, aunts,
and immediate family. Most of his summers were spent working on the family farm.
Nevertheless, he was able to develop into an outstanding swimmer and golfer who starred on his
high school teams.

Keith obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis in 1975 despite a
heavy curriculum of partying and intramural sports. After finishing college, he joined his father
to run Agro Crop Farms for approximately 15 years.

Keith was a devoted husband and father. In 1980, he had the good fortune to meet Jamie Brown
and fall in love. They were married on February 20, 1982. On July 7, 1987"the couple was
blessed with their first daughter, Ashley. On May 26, 1989 they were blessed with their second
daughter, Ariann.

Keith found Christ through the teachings of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. This guided his
path in life and was demonstrated in his interactions with all whom he came in contact. His faith
was able to help sustain him through the many challenges he encountered throughout his life.

After selling the family farm, Keith sold cars on the central coast for approximately 17 years and
most recently worked in elder care for Casa Rosa while semi-retired.

He was dedicated to working with kids and serving the community. He coached PE, intramurals,
girls’ and boys’ basketball and flag football. His love of basketball continued in the community
with him opening the gym weekly.
Keith loved visiting his brother David in Park City, UT several times a year, and enjoyed hiking
the mountains around his home.

Keith will be remembered as – best friend, generous, down to earth, being kind to all, great story
teller, loving music, and walking all around AG.
Keith is survived by his wife Jamie, daughters Ashley and Ariann, his brother David and nieces
Katie and Brooke.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 20th at the Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
