Joseph A. Batista was a well-known figure around the five cities. Whether it be through his 25 years of service as the manager of the Farm Supply pump department or from the BBQ deli he owned and operated in the early 90's. Being part of the heart and soul of our community, Joe also volunteered his younger years to the Arroyo Grande Fire Department. In his retirement Joe enjoyed his lifelong passion of gardening. He could often be found in his acre sized veggie patch picking produce to share with neighbors, friends, and passers-by, or in his personal garden chalk full of ripe tomatoes and strawberries. Joe was a truly talented green thumb and had a deep love to watch things grow. But Joe may have been best known for being a dependable, loving and caring family man with funny stories to share and handy skills to teach. Joe leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Patti Christian, his 5 children: David, Debbie, Scotti, Byron and Laura, 2 step children: Tina and Michelle. As well as 8 grandchildren: Maddy Allen, Joe, Caprice, Riley, Jaylen, Trenton and Kuni, 4 step grandchildren: Alicesandi, Sierra, Chelsea and Tyler, 1 great-grandchild: Theo and 1 step great grandchild; Hunter. He is preceded in death by sister Mary, brother John and his son Garth. Joe spent the last weeks of his life at home, cared for and surrounded by his wife Patti, and step grandchildren Alicesandi, Chelsea and Sierra. He passed away peacefully, in his sleep, knowing he was loved.
It was his request that no service be held.
Donations in his memory can be sent t6o the Central Coast Hospice.
