Joanne Neff
October 11, 1938 – June 28, 2025
Joanne Neff, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and volunteer, passed away
peacefully at her home in Arroyo Grande on June 28, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born on October 11, 1938, Joanne lived a life rooted in kindness, dedication, and service to
others. She was a treasured educator who spent many years shaping young minds in the
classroom, always patient and full of heart. Joanne was a dedicated reading specialist who
worked closely with young children, helping countless students develop a lifelong love of
reading. Her gentle guidance and patient encouragement made a lasting impact on the lives of
the children she taught, many of whom credit her with opening the door to learning and
confidence. Her love for teaching extended beyond academics—she nurtured confidence,
curiosity, and compassion in her students.
Beyond the classroom, Joanne gave generously of her time as a dedicated community
volunteer with the People’s Kitchen and New Life Community Church. Through People’s
Kitchen, she served countless meals during her decades of service to members of the local
community. Joanne cherished her church family immensely and found delight in being a
blessing to those around her. She thoroughly enjoyed her involvement in the congregation’s
women’s group and youth program. She is deeply admired for the comfort and joy she brought
to others through her heartfelt cards, lovingly prepared meals and desserts, and the devoted
kindness she extended to individuals and families throughout the Five Cities community.
Another one of her most cherished expressions of love was sharing homemade treats with
teachers, staff, and coaches at nearby schools. Joanne’s genuine compassion for others was
matched only by the profound love she had for her family.
Joanne was a cherished grandmother, a guiding light in the lives of her grandchildren, and a
source of joy, wisdom, and unwavering support. She found great happiness in family gatherings
and the simple moments shared with those she loved.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Neff, recently celebrating 65 years of marriage;
her brother, Jack Purcell (Cheryl); her sons, David (Janey), Steven (Nikol), and Dan (Jennifer);
her grandchildren Kailan, Luke, Malayne, Bryan, Lily, Lauren, Andrew, and Louvia; and her
extended family and many friends who will miss her dearly. She is now reunited in peace with
her son, Michael.
A private family service will be held to honor Joanne’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the
family asks that donations be made to a local education or community volunteer organization in
her memory.
Joanne’s grace, generosity, and love will be remembered always.
