It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Johanna (Joanna) Catherina Van Blaricom (née Troquato) of Arroyo Grande, CA on August 9, 2024, age 88. She was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed by many.
Joanna was born on March 20, 1936, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Rosario and Philomena (née Capalongo) Troquato. A proud graduate of Technical High School, she moved to Southern California, where she was manager for Alphy’s Restaurants for many years. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Earl. Upon retirement, they settled at Sunrise Terrace in Arroyo Grande.
Throughout her life, Joanna was known in her community for her involvement in the church, where she made numerous friends with her generous heart. Joanna was very active in the Italian Catholic Federation, Martha Ministry and St. Patrick’s Outreach, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary and the Arroyo Grande Women’s Club. Her presence could light up any room and she was often the center of any gathering with her captivating stories and genuine warmth.
Joanna was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her children Roseanne and Raymond, and her three brothers, Angelo, George, and Neil. She is survived by her loving sisters Anne Bielucke and Lee Wills, and was a cherished “Aunt Dolly” to many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her friends and colleagues at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
There will be a Rosary at 10:30 am, and a funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Beto and Fr. Abraham, will be celebrated at 11:00 am. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 501 Fair Oaks Ave, Arroyo Grande. Reception to follow in the church hall.
