Jerrald Dostal Obituary

Jerrald Eugene Dostal age 88, of Grover Beach passed on to the streets of glory to meet his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilma Rae (Hammond) Dostal, daughter Darlene (Dostal) Michael and her husband Neel; and four sons: Rick (Maggie), Dan (Lisa), Claude (Sheri), and Lee (Tammy); two sisters, Adaline Richardson and Mary Ellen Chandler; and a brother, Charles Lee.

Jerrald was a husband, father, grandfather (17), great grandfather (21), great-great grandfather (2), brother, uncle, mentor, and friend to many.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War aand reached the rank of Corporal, and he graduated from Oklahoma A&M Tech Okmulgee on the GI Bill.  In 1969, he moved his young family to Grover Beach, California from Prague, Oklahoma, and quickly became an integral part of the community.  A journeyman carpenter of 58 years, he retired from the Carpenters Union local 805 Arroyo Grande where he was the apprenticeship instructor for many years. Jerrald was also a member of the Grover Beach Assembly of God Church where he was a deacon and Royal Rangers Commander.  He remodeled much of the church building, and the Sunday School wing is named Dostal Hall in honor of his dedication.

Jerrald was also a renowned storyteller, and family, friends, and Rangers loved to sit and listen to his stories and yarns. His Ranger friends know him as Running Hare or Uncle. He was a Wilderness member, Training Coordinator, and National Training Camp instructor.  He faithfully nurtured his family, friends, neighbors, and many younger generations with the integrity, patience, skill, and faith that were reflected in his hobbies of beekeeping and gardening. He was inspired and sustained by the majesty of God’s creation, and he shared this inspiration with all who surrounded him.

His legacy as a generous, caring man of strength, integrity, and faith lives in on in the many lives he touched.  He will be long remembered and greatly missed.
