Jeffrey Robert Beck, a lifelong resident of Arroyo Grande, California, passed away of natural causes on January 22, 2025. Born on May 26, 1950, Jeff built a life full of family, a career he loved, and cherished friends.
Jeff leaves behind a family who loved him deeply. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shelley, daughters Jennifer and Melissa (Rosendo), and his sister, Suzy (Darrell). He was a proud grandpa to Sebastian, Mateo, Isabel, Arturo, Marisol, and Sofia. Jeff also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara (Bob).
Jeff’s love for driving started at an early age: driving a tractor at four years old; driving his father’s truck over the back hills to visit friends long before he got his license. His pride was the ‘55 Chevy he rebuilt, nicknamed Booger for its bright green paint job with yellow and white flames, before he painted it red.
Throughout school Jeff enjoyed activities such as FFA. After graduating from Arroyo Grande High School in 1968, he remained close friends with many of his classmates.
Always keeping busy, Jeff was the hardest working person we knew. After starting Beck Trucking in 1982, he never retired from driving trucks. If he wasn’t working, or keeping his yard meticulous, he could often be found spending time with many of his friends.
Jeff also had a passion for his hobbies, namely drag racing and clamming. He made many new friends when he bought a ‘67 Chevelle and started racing at Famoso Raceway. He was so proud the year he won the Wally trophy. He also loved clamming, and no one was more excited than he was when the Pismo Clams returned after being gone for decades. After failed attempts to pass on his passion for clamming to his daughters, he got a second chance with his grandsons. Jeff was the master of all of his many barbecues, but especially the large stone smoker he built with his dad.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Portuguese Hall, located at 707 Huasna Road in Arroyo Grande, California.
In honor of Jeff, please consider donating to Cal Poly’s Center for Coastal Marine Sciences. Please note that it’s for the clamming program to help keep the population thriving for future generations of clammers. https://securelb.imodules.com/s/699/bp19/interior.aspx?sid=699&gid=1&sitebuilder=1&pgid=961&cid=2272&bledit=1&dids=377&sort=1
