Janie Willhelmina “Jannie” Graham (Zechner), age 75, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Santa Maria, California.
Born on September 11, 1949, in Den Haag, Netherlands, Janie immigrated to the United States with her parents, Jack and Ann Zechner, in the late 1950s. The family settled into their new life with hope, hard work and determination, values that Janie carried with her throughout her life.
She attended Arroyo Grande High School as part of the Class of 1967. It was during this formative time that she met the love of her life, Phil Graham. Their story began in Pismo Beach at the Rose Garden while Phil was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base. From that first meeting, their bond was undeniable. Phil swept Janie off her feet and they married in 1966 before he received orders to Alaska. Their love endured for nearly six decades; they rarely left each other’s side and built a life filled with laughter and joy.
Janie was a dedicated entrepreneur who poured her energy into running two successful businesses: Idaho Club Liquors and later the beloved Pismo Fish & Chips restaurant. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on both customers and colleagues alike until her well-earned retirement.
Family meant everything to Janie. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, Phil Graham, who remains heartbroken by her passing. Together they raised their daughter Lanie (and spouse Phillip Koziel), who brought immeasurable pride and happiness into Janie’s life. Her three grandchildren—Riley, Jack, and Paul Koziel—were constant sources of joy for her. She delighted in sharing stories of their adventures and accomplishments with anyone who would listen.
Though an only child, Janie was surrounded by a large extended family of cousins and friends who became like family through the warmth of her generous spirit. Her fun-loving nature made everyone feel welcome; she had a gift for making people feel seen and cherished.
Janie enjoyed shopping trips, long lunches with friends, and visits to the casino—simple pleasures that brought laughter and light into her days.
Janie Willhelmina “Jannie” Graham will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the joy she brought to those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Student Center of the New Life Community Church 941 N. Oak Park Blvd. in Pismo Beach. Our family would be honored with your presence.
A private burial will be held at Arroyo Grande Cemetery under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel.
