Glenn W. Simmermaker Jr.
Glenn was born in April, 1947 and passed away on August 2, 2021. He was born in Long Beach, CA, the first of three sons to Glenn Sr. and Florence Simmermaker. Glenn spent most of his life on the central coast, attending local schools and was a member of the Arroyo Grande High School class of 1965. In 1967 he married Linda Lovall and they had two daughters together, Sheri and Sheli.
Glenn worked in the metal polishing and refinishing business most of his life. He established Western Metal Refinishing over 50 years ago in Santa Maria, moving the business to Oceano 30 years ago. He was a highly respected expert in the field and his expertise was something people all over the state relied on. He loved restoring old cars, antique stoves, lamps and anything brass. He built roadsters and did chrome work on boats and cars that won awards for his customers in shows.
In 1985 he purchased an old 1907 homestead in Oceano and affectionately named it the “Lazy S Ranch”. He spent the last 36 years restoring and working on the property. It became a gathering place for family and friends and many holiday events and BBQ’s were enjoyed there.
Glenn enjoyed fishing trips to the Sierras and his yearly trips to June Loop with his brothers and friends. He loved the mountains, the trees, and being outdoors. He looked forward to camping and riding his quad in the desert with his grandchildren. He loved to go deep sea fishing and had worked as a deck hand as a teenager on his uncle’s commercial fishing boat.
Glenn was always there for his family and friends. He had this great big heart and was always helping someone out. He was known for his kindness and never being able to say No. He was a wonderful storyteller and joke teller with a great sense of humor. If anyone needed advice he was always ready to give it with a humorous spin to it. Your problems didn’t seem so bad after talking to him.
He was especially close to his family and enjoyed every minute spent with his daughters and grandchildren. He never missed a ball game, school event, or being anywhere that they wanted him to be. He cherished time spent with family and will be deeply missed. His life lessons and sayings will be remembered forever.
Glenn is survived by his daughters Sheri (Bob) White, grandchildren Ashley and Adam White; Sheli (Joe) Cavanillas, grandchildren, Luke and Logan (Gen) Cavanillas, great grandchildren Onyx and Cove Cavanillas; his brother Gary Simmermaker, nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson KC Cavanillas in May 2021, his brother David and parents Glenn and Florence Simmermaker.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 28th, 2021 at 2PM at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel. A reception will follow at the Oceano Depot.
