Geraldine "Gerri" Fitzgerald Jones (March 26, 1945 to December 16, 2024) was born in Los Angeles County and grew up in Whittier, CA. She would fondly talk of living on Ramona Ave as a young girl, which was near her Grandparents house. Many visits between the two houses occurred. Her family then moved to Sunset Ave after her parents built a house at that location. There she thrived in high school. She enjoyed being in the color guard, and socializing with her many friends that she maintained contact with throughout her whole life. Gerri went on to college at Brigham Young University. She earned a Bachelor's degree to become a teacher. She knew she wanted to become a teacher since she was in second grade. After graduation and returning to take teacher certification classes, Gerri met her husband, Douglas Jones, of 51 years. Gerri had her first teaching job in Palm Springs, CA in 1969. Soon they started a family and it grew to five children.
In 1971, Gerri and her husband moved to Shell Beach and stayed in the local 5-Cities area the remainder of their lives. Gerri enjoyed raising her children in the community and meeting other parents and friends over all these years. If you were a neighbor or friend of Gerri you had the pleasure of enjoying her high cooking and baking skills by receiving goodies at any given time. Gerri also was a gifted seamstress and would sew for her five children. Her three girls benefited from her formal dress making talent. If you had the privilege of knowing Gerri, you know she lived a pretty ordinary life. However her ordinary life helped make anyone else's life feel extraordinary by knowing her. This, she would never have admitted too or want to be responsible for. She was an extraordinary woman herself and helped make others feel the same. She is survived by five children (Jennifer, Jessica, Jason, Janell and Jerome), 10 grandchildren, and many dogs. Her life and her husband's life (Douglas L Jones, July 25, 1934 - October 15, 2020).
