George Stewart Obituary

George LeRoy Stewart went to be with Jesus early in the morning on March 31, 2025. He was a life-long Christian, who is now in Heaven where all believers hope to be one day. He was born to Donald and Lorraine Stewart in Ukiah, California, on June 17, 1943. His family moved to Arroyo Grande when he was six years old. He attended local schools and graduated with Arroyo Grande High School’s Class of 1961. He went on to receive a degree in Business Administration from Cal Poly in December 1965. He married Lynn Pierson in August 1965; they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this summer. He was a computer sales representative for Burroughs Corporation from 1966 to May 1977 when he was offered a job as a sales representative at California Fine Wire Company in Grover City (Beach). He soon advanced to Sales/Marketing Manager there and proudly served in that capacity until his retirement in June 2004. He was a dedicated member of the Arroyo Grande Lions Club for 57 years where he served as President a couple times and in all other positions leading up to being elected Vice District Governor in 2002-2003 and then District Governor in 2003-2004 of District 4A3, which included San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. He was very honored to be chosen Council Chairman in 2004-2005, where he oversaw all Lions Club districts in California and Nevada.  He received many awards and honors. He loved being a Lion. He also loved hunting and being a member of the Avenales Sportsmen’s Club in rural San Luis Obispo County for close to 40 years. There was a good amount of male bonding going on out there at that beautiful ranch in the middle of nowhere; he made some wonderful friends that he treasured as brothers. He got a buck almost every year, served as camp cook for a long time and was a patrolman for the last few years. He and Lynn met at the old Presbyterian Church in Arroyo Grande in 1963, which later transitioned to Grace Bible Church. They have lived and raised their family in the same house since 1966, where they’ve made friendships that seem more like family. He met for a monthly lunch with a few members of his high school Class of 1961. He also met weekly for breakfast at Village Café with Louis Visser, his friend of 70+ years who served as his best man when he and Lynn married. When their children were young, George coached youth baseball, as well as soccer. He also served as AYSO Commissioner at one time. In addition to local and out-of-state hunting, his hobbies included fishing, camping and starting projects he didn’t always finish. He lived his life his way and he was blessed. He loved his family with all his heart. He is now reunited with their third child, Matthew Craig, who passed away from congenital heart disease on his first birthday in April 1975. His older brother, Donald Richard, passed away from Leukemia in 1959. George leaves behind his wife, Lynn, daughter, Amy Williams, and son, Jason Stewart (Jennifer). He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Joey Williams (Kathryn), Cassandra Davis, Jessica Williams (Marconi Baybayan), Makenzie Stewart (Aidan Strope) and Lily Stewart; as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Matthew Williams, Arianna Davis, Mason Baybayan, Liam Davis, Rylee Davis, Zachary Baybayan and Lucas Baybayan. Also included as family are Edward Williams, Jonathan Davis and Josiah Hoyte, his sisters-in-law and their families (Barbara & Tom Ralph and Rebecca & Roy Gibson) his cousins in Georgia, Manuel Nunez & family, Patricia Conner & family, Lynn’s cousins, as well as his sister, Anita, living in Alaska and his brother, Christopher, living in Ukraine. A Celebration of Life will be held for George on Saturday, May 10, at 11:00 AM at Grace Bible Church, 100 Rodeo Drive, Arroyo Grande, California. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach. Should you wish, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family is very appreciative of all the love and support they have received.
