Maxine “Gale” Keenan was born December 17, 1930, in Colorado and passed away peacefully January 1, 2025, with family at her bedside. Gale received her associate degree from Colorado Women’s College in Early Childhood Education.  She was married on July 12th ,1952, to George F. Keenan, Jr. They moved to Morro Bay California in 1957. They had four children, Michael, Mark, Richard and Lynn. Gale used her college training frequently volunteering as a Cub Scout leader, Campfire Girl leader, and Head Librarian at Morro Bay Elementary.

In 1972 they moved their family to Cambria, California where they bought the Cambria Village Pharmacy. They soon changed the name to the Keenan’s Cambria Village Pharmacy. While her husband George was the pharmacist, Gale was the lead in running the front of the store.  They were well known by everyone in Cambria. However, Gale’s number one job was a homemaker. Her number one priority was always her four children.

George and Gale were members of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church from 1958 to 1972.  Then, Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Cambria since 1972.

In 2020, during Covid, her son Richard drove her to Atlanta to be near her oldest son Michael.  She was a great traveler. In 2023 her daughter Lynn drove her from Atlanta back to California where she remained until her passing. She loved nothing more than to be with her family and being driven down the road.

She was proceeded in death by her husband of 67 years, George Keenan. She is survived by Michael (Selena) Keenan, Mark Keenan, Richard (Narlene) Keenan and Lynn (Karl Van Gundy) Keenan. Grandchildren, Kenny, Grace, Sarah, Drew, Troy, Michael, Kayla, John, Tyson, Lindsay, Sean, and numerous great grandchildren.

Services will be as follows: January 16th, 2025 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Morro Bay. Viewing at 9:00am, Rosary at 9:30am, Mass at 10:00am. Burial will follow at the Los Osos Valley Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband George.
