Eva (Gomez) Diaz
August 15, 1946 ~ January 14, 2024 (age 77) 77 Years Old
Eva Diaz, born August 15, 1946 in San Luis Obispo, CA to Salomon and Christina Gomez passed away on January 14, 2024 at home in Nipomo, CA surrounded by family.
Eva lived her entire life on the Central Coast, working in the fields hand-packing vegetables and in the packing houses in Oceano, and raising her four sons — Raymond, Guillermo, Luis, and Manuel Jr. — with the love of her life and soulmate, Manuel Diaz. Together, Eva and Manuel raised a beautiful family and created a home full of food, laughter and love.
At her heart, Eva was a caretaker. Eva cared for her mother and brother as they aged and she was known for adopting and caring for any friend her sons would bring home with a warm plate of food, a place to sleep, or a warm embrace. She became “Mom” or “Grandma” to everyone who walked through her front door. Of the many jobs she had throughout the years, Eva’s favorite was taking care of her grandchildren and watching them grow and raise families of their own. Some of her favorite times were spent with friends and family — visits to the casino (where she often came home with a big smile on her face), weekend bbqs, birthday parties, trips to Las Vegas, Laughlin, Mexico, and Hawaii, or the spontaneous weekday visit that culminated in a family dinner with Eva’s delicious cooking. In fact, no one ever left Eva’s house hungry. She was an amazing cook and her Christmas tamales came to be known all over town.
But beyond her amazing cooking, most of all Eva will be missed most for her kindness, strength, ability to see the good in all, and the unconditional love and support she had for her family. Eva will be missed by many but her laughter and smile will forever live in the hearts of everyone she touched. Eva is preceded in death by her father Salomon Gomez, her mother Chistina Gomez and her brother Henry Gomez.
Eva is survived by her beloved husband Manuel, brother Sal Gomez (Lilly), sons Raymond Martindelcampo (Lupita), Guillermo Martindelcampo (Kathy), Luis Perez (Emma), Manuel Diaz Jr (Sonia), 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Eva lived a full life filled with love, laughter and family, and the last years of her life were made very comfortable with her husband Manuel by her side in the home of her son Guillermo and daughter-in-law Kathy, who always took great care of her and made sure all her needs were met with help from her son Luis.
