Eloise Genevieve “Genie” Forrester was born March 18, 1928, in Grand Junction, Colorado, and died November 22, 2022, in Grover Beach, California.
Genie was born to Joanna and Joseph Geary, the youngest of four girls raised during the Depression. Her sisters were Patricia, Bernadette, and Mary Jo. They were a strong Irish, Catholic family. They moved to Denver when she was about seven, where she attended Annunciation Catholic School (Sisters of Charity) through 12th grade.
At age 21, Genie moved to California for better work. She reconnected with a childhood family friend, Howard W. “Chuck” Forrester, a United States Marine. After his conversion to Catholicism, they were married at Camp Pendleton Ranch House Chapel, on April 19, 1952. They had three daughters: Debbie, born 1953; Denise, born 1956; and Michele, born 1966.
Genie and Chuck raised their family in Ontario, California, where she worked for the District Attorney’s office, as well as in the courts. She volunteered at their elementary school as both a room-parent and after-school tutor. She also volunteered at their church heading up the after-school catechism program. Genie decided to retire to Cambria in 1979, when Chuck suddenly died. She enjoyed church and many friends in Cambria until 1997, when she re-located to Grover Beach. Genie loved her Catholic faith, her family and friends, being Irish, playing cards, and See’s Candy…especially giving it away.
She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Dick), Denise (Dominic), and Michele (Mark); grandchildren, Michele (Maria), Kaitlynn (Fifi), Emily (Christopher), John (Jennifer), and Gabriel (Ashley); and great-grandchildren, Payton, Efia, Baker and Kristen. Genie was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; granddaughter, Brandy; and sisters, Patricia, Bernadette and Mary Jo.
