On November 25, 2020, Edward Michael Sapien, 81, passed peacefully at the Santa Maria Care Center after a tough battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was one of seven children, born January 1st 1939 in Brawley, California, to the late Esteban and Francisca (Nene) Sapien of Nipomo, California.
Edward excelled in school and was an avid baseball player. His passion was to train horses and ride in parades, especially as Charro. He loved to BBQ for family and friends. He graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1957, located in Arroyo Grande, California. He then attended Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California and then went on to be a general contractor in San Luis Obispo County. Edward married the beautiful Ida Contreras in 1960 and enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage raising three children. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and late sister, Estella Saipen.
Edward is survived by five siblings, Henry Sapien (Carmen), Elvira Aguilar, Eva Adame (Henry), Enedina Castillo (Henry), and Elisa Sapien. His three children, Elizabeth Sapien, Edward (Eddie) Sapein, Jr. and Eileen Sapien. He also leaves three grandchildren, Nicole Pena, Brianna Steinbach-Eskelson (Mike), Roy/Ava Shurtz and five great grandchildren. He was proud of them all.
Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach, California, will be in charge of the funeral arrangements. Due to the pandemic there will not be a Celebration of Life. Our family would like to thank the compassionate staff of Santa Maria Care Center and Hospice for their care of Edward.
