A memorial service for Donna Filter will be held at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, 1239 Longbranch Avenue, Grover Beach at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

Donna C. Filter, 86, of Arroyo Grande, CA died peacefully on November 20, 2019 surrounded by her daughters and other loved ones. She was born in Lincoln, IL, and graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and later earned her teaching credential from Eastern Illinois University. She taught high school English and Home Economics in Illinois and at Taft Union High School for many years.

Throughout her life, Donna enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, and traveling with her husband, Paul. Her greatest joy was being a homemaker, mom and grandmother and spending time with family. She was a loving and dedicated caregiver to Paul until his death in 2016. In more recent years, she enjoyed her patio sanctuary where she watched and faithfully fed her beloved hummingbirds. Donna especially appreciated and looked forward to her daily visits from Carol which included excursions to the library, movies, and lunch dates.

She is survived by three daughters: Carol Kolb (Howard) of Pismo Beach, CA, and grandchildren Natalie and Sophia; Stacy Fazio (Tony) of Clovis, CA, and grandchildren Megan and Christian; Melinda Mauro (John) of Visalia, CA, and grandchildren Hayley and Connor. She is also survived by three step-children: Greg Filter (Charla) of Chattanooga, TN, and grandchildren Lauren, Andrew and Tucker; Kayla Papayiannis (Christoforos) of San Francisco, CA; and Amy Le Coz (Bob Thompson) of Tewin, Hertfordshire, UK and grandchildren Elise and Tristan.

She was preceded in death by Paul, her husband of 40 years; parents William and Mary Cadwallader, brother David Cadwallader, and her first husband Haynes Hawkins.

We are grateful to Dr. Piyal Patel for the excellent and compassionate care she provided to Donna and Paul at the end of their lives. We extend special appreciation to Angelita Mendez for her steadfast support and care of Donna over the years.
