Obituary

Donald Eugene Cully Jr

1946-2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Eugene Cully Jr.  Donald passed away peacefully on November 19th, 2025 in Arroyo Grande, California.  Born September 11, 1946 in Hutchinson, Kansas Donald was a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Donald was the son of Donald Sr and Royce (Ogren) Cully who instilled in him dedication, loyalty and a strong work ethic.

Donald’s life was marked by service and commitment. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966 to1968.  During his time in the Navy he was deployed to support the efforts in the Vietnam War on the destroyers USS James E. Kyes and USS Harry E. Hubbard.

Donald graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964 where he was a standout in football, basketball, track and drums with the Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corp. Following his time in the military he continued his education graduating from Hutchinson Community College in 1970 and later earning his Bachelor’s from Emporia State University in 1974.

Donald’s career primarily was in management within the transportation industry. His colleagues will remember him not only for his leadership but also for all the long hours and dedication to supporting his team and getting the job done.

Donald shared a long and fulfilling life with his beloved wife, Charlene, whom he married in 1970, a union that lasted 49 years. They were a team who tackled life’s challenges together and created a life and home filled with love and cherished memories. Sadly, Donald is preceded in death by his wife Charlene who passed away in 2019, as well as his sister Nancy, brother Ronald, nephew Don, and his parents Donald Sr and Royce. He also leaves behind fond memories of his two beloved cats, Lucy and Jake, who were a source of comfort and companionship.

In addition to family and work Donald had a passion for music, sports, trivia and politics.

Donald is survived by his son Dan (Erin) and his grandson, Brayden, who brought tremendous pride and joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister Ginger Ostendorf and sister-in-law Jean Cully. He will also be missed by his nephews, David (Tami) and Christian (Anna), as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

As we celebrate and reflect on Donald’s life let us cherish the memories we hold dear and find comfort knowing Donald is at peace now and that his legacy will live on through his family, friends and the many lives he touched.  Rest in peace Donald; we all love you and will be greatly missed.
