Diane Kessler Obituary

In Loving Memory of Diane Evonne Kessler

(April 28, 1943 – May 21, 2025)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Diane Evonne Kessler, who departed this life on May 21, 2025, in Arroyo Grande, California, at the age of 82. Born on April 28, 1943, in Joliet, Illinois, to Ethel & James Ream, Diane’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, strength, creativity, and a deep devotion to her family and community. We find comfort in knowing that she has gone home to be with our loving Father in Heaven, where she will have the promise of eternal life and where we will be reunited with her again.

Diane met and married the love of her life, Geoffrey Kessler, in Berkeley, California. Together they built a wonderful life in Los Angeles, where Diane embraced her role as a devoted homemaker, mother, and philanthropist. Her dedication to her family was unwavering and formed the foundation of a warm and nurturing household.

From an early age, Diane displayed a passion for the arts. She began playing the accordion as a young girl and later played the piano. Her artistic journey blossomed into sculpting—an area in which she excelled—creating beautiful works of art that continue to bring joy to those who knew her. Her love for creativity extended into the world of theater. Diane held leadership roles within the Center Theater Group Affiliates, including serving as president. Her commitment to expanding access to the arts was evident in her efforts to bring theater experiences to underprivileged children—a reflection of her generous spirit and belief in the transformative power of art.

Diane had an adventurous side that found expression in her love for travel. She embarked on many journeys around the world with a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm that enriched her life and those around her. Diane had the gift of forming lasting connections with her friends. Diane was also an avid and passionate tennis player and fan. She found joy both playing on the court and in cheering from the sidelines.

She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Kimberly Pacious (Ted) and Lori Sterling (Duke), and by her cherished grandchildren: Jeremy Pacious, Beth Pacious, Ryan Pacious, and Grace Sterling. Diane also leaves behind her beloved cats, Morris and Marmalade, who were her constant companions.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Geoffrey Kessler (1941-2005). The thought of their reunion brings comfort to those mourning her loss.

Her love for bright, vibrant colors reflected the radiance of her personality—joyful, expressive, and full of life. That same vibrancy lives on through the legacy she leaves behind: one rooted in love for family, artistic expression, kindness toward others, and a boundless enthusiasm for life’s beauty.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Alder House and hospice for their compassionate care during Diane’s final months and days.

Her memory and our love for her will forever be etched in our hearts.
