Derek Carnes Obituary

Derek Glen Carnes, born on February 10, 1983, in Sacramento, California, passed away at the age of 41 in Oceano, California, on September 30th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his sons, Alexander Carnes 18, and Nicolas Carnes 11; his mother, Cheryl Carnes; his brother, Michael Carnes; his fiancé, Ashley Rigali and his nieces and nephew Brandi, Kaydence and Tristan Carnes.  Derek was preceded in death by his stepfather, Vern Dahl; his sister, Lori Carnes; and his grandparents, Eva and Melvin Burger.

Derek was a graduate of Arroyo Grande High and furthered his education at Allan Hancock College. His career was marked by a profound dedication to helping children. In 2012, he began a year-long unpaid internship at the Department of Social Services (DSS) of San Luis Obispo County, driven by his goal to aid children. His commitment and passion led him to his ultimate role as an Adoption Agent for DSS, a position he held with immense pride.

Known for his altruistic and compassionate nature, Derek was a devoted single father to his two sons who were his world. He cherished his family and spending time with them on holidays and family events. His personality was characterized by his kindness, loyalty, sense of humor and charisma, making him a respected and cherished member of his community. Derek's hobbies included attending county fairs with his sons, paddle-boarding, fishing, hiking, participating in art and wine walks, building models, reading, camping, and enjoying concerts and festivals.

       A service to honor Derek's life will be held at the Central Coast Worship Center, located at 1710 Ocean St., Oceano, CA, on October 14, 2024, starting at 3 PM.
