David Fisher Obituary

David Frank Fisher was born to Leonard and Marie Fisher in Silverton, Oregon and died peacefully on March 12, 2021, in Palo Alto, CA. He was 76 years old.  He grew up in Mt. Angel Oregon where his father was the town pharmacist and served as mayor. He attended the University of Portland and earned a degree in Engineering Science in 1966. He was married to Patsy Janora Fisher on November 28, 1970 in Pismo Beach, CA.

He spent almost his entire career at NASA Dryden Flight Research Facility at Edwards Air Force in California as research engineer and worked on several notable projects including the X-15, XB-70, YF-12, F-15, Jet Star, F-18 HARV, F-16XL, X-29, X-31 and published numerous articles on his research. He raised his family in Lancaster and later retired to the Central Coast town of Nipomo.

During his retirement, he accelerated his love for the game of golf and was able to make several golf trips with his sons to places such as Bandon Dunes, Bend, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Torrey Pines, Scotland, and Ireland. He volunteered for the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach as well as numerous times for the Senior PGA Tour at the stop in Valencia. He got his first and only hole-in-one on #8 of the Lakes nine at Blacklake GC in 2017. He was very proud of this and let his son Gregg know that he had checked this off this list while his son has not – yet! He was also fortunate to make several trips with his family to places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, Rome, and to the East Coast.

He survived by his wife, Patsy, sons Gregg and Jeff, granddaughters Alison and Claire, daughter-in-law Amanda, sisters Joan Jones, Char Unrein, and Sharon Patterson, brothers-in-law Clem Unrein, Cline Patterson, Bill Ballagh, Doug Ballagh, sisters-in-law Carole Fisher, Tina Ballagh and Kathleen Ballagh, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick and his brother-in-law Ron Ballagh.
