Carol Lee Nicholson Sailors

May 16, 1942

January 12, 2020

Carol Lee Nicholson Sailors was born on May 16, 1942 in Taft, California to Donald and Evelyn Nicholson.  She grew up in Taft, Los Altos and Porterville, California, graduating from Porterville High School in 1960.  Carol married the love of her life, Delbert I. Sailors and remained together for almost 60 years until her death.

As her husband, Delbert began his career in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam, as Carol worked as a secretary for law firms and medical offices.  One of Carol’s favorite jobs was when living in Turon, Kansas; she managed the Turon Cattle Auction Barn.  Carol had many fond memories of her time and friends in Kansas.  Her best job however, was being a great Marine Corps wife and a loving mother to her children.  Together with Delbert, they raised 5 children, living in San Diego, Pismo Beach, Turon, Porterville and Clovis before they retired to Oceano, California as Carol was a true beach girl, and loved living at the beach.

Carol loved to write short stories and poetry and was a published author.  In addition, she was an accomplished artist and participated in various art shows. She also loved the Clovis Rodeo, dancing with her husband and was an avid reader.  Carol’s greatest treasures on earth were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Every moment spent with them was etched in her memory.  She leaves a great void in our family and extended family.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Evelyn Nicholson, her grandparents, Stanley and Hildur Kerr and Robert and Bessie Nicholson.

Carol is survived by her husband Delbert, her 5 children and their spouses:  Patrick Sailors (Tracy), Elizabeth Lothman (George), Kelly Gill (Keith), Candice Martin (John) and Thomas Sailors (Amy).   Her 14 grandchildren who all called her “Nene”:  Tara Sailors, Tawna Lothman Haney (Charlie), Collin DeSimone (Jessica), Amanda Sailors, Matthew Sailors, Johnny Martin, Kyle Gill, Jordan Sailors, Dylan DeSimone, Cody Sailors (Emily), Cheylee Sailors, Lane Sailors, Kaylee Gill, Sayla Champion and Arielle and Ashley Elisara. Her 5 great grandchildren:  Mateo Sailors, Makenzie  Sailors, Gracelynn, Phenix and Nixon DeSimone and Kenzie and Ryleigh DeSimone.

Carol also leaves behind her cousins and many close friends who she loved dearly. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
