Bob A. Kessler, 87, left this world for his final home in Heaven on September 27, 2024 in Arroyo Grande, California.
Bob was born on January 15th, 1937 in Jamesport, Missouri to George and Lois Kessler. He was raised in Taft, California where he attended St. Mary's Catholic School, Taft Union High School (class of 1955), Taft College, and Cal State Bakersfield. Bob played football in high school and Taft College as a guard, and was awarded most valuable player and All League honors. This is where he was given his nickname "Choo Choo." He was also a shot putter on Taft High's track team.
Bob enjoyed a long career at Standard Oil Company (Chevron) and retired at the age of 60 to spend time with his family and travel with his wife Darlene, traveling to places such as Alaska and a memorable trip to Branson, Missouri. He was a fisherman and lifelong hunter, successfully hunting his last buck at age 81. He spent many wonderful hunting, fishing, and camping trips with Mark and Sylvia Constable and family. Bob also loved watching football with his family.
Bob was a man of strong faith, reading his Bible daily and encouraging those around him with prayers. He loved his church family at Hope Church, he especially appreciated his relationships with pastors Robert and Eric. Bob valued his involvement with the men’s Bible study group and men's camp.
Bob loved spending time with his family and never missed a family event, even a birthday party for the family pug. He had a smile and kind word for everyone, and was known and loved for his positive outlook on life and silly jokes. His happy and uplifting demeanor will be missed.
Bob is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years Darlene Kessler, his parents George and Lois Kessler, his sons Robert Michael Kessler and Eric David Kessler. He is survived by his sister Susan Brown and her husband Tom, his daughter Shelley Walters, his son John Kessler, his stepchildren and their spouses Kari and Sam Maxwell, Randy and Candy Gonzales, Chuck and Sandra Gonzales, Sindy and Dennis Walrath, his grandchildren Cristen Duke and her husband Nathan, Jordan Walters and his wife Marie, Ricki Kessler, Jason Maxwell, Ashley Derichsweiler, Kimi Maxwell, OJ Gonzales, Brad Gonzales, Randy Gonzales Jr., Nicole Cleveland, Vanessa Ladden, Michael Gonzales, Sergio Gonzales, Jeremy Gonzales, Christopher Walrath, Jynna Sheridan, and their spouses, his nephews Kal Vaughn and Adam Vaughn, many great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and many other family members and extended family.
