Betty Ann Carroll Rulison, a beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, in Grover Beach, California, at the age of 80. Born on June 1, 1944, in Santa Maria, California, Betty was the daughter of Einar and Leona Hero. She lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddy Carroll, who she married in 1962 and with whom she shared a until his passing in 1996. She was also preceded by her parents, Einar and Leona Hero, and her brother, Einar L. Hero. She found love again, marrying Craig Rulison in 2000, who stood by her side until the end.
A proud graduate of Arroyo Grande High School, Betty completed her education with a Bachelor’s Degree from Cal Poly. For many years, she worked as a bookkeeper, demonstrating her exceptional skills and strong work ethic. Beyond her professional life, Betty was deeply involved in the family cattle ranch in Northern California, where she displayed her love for the land and the traditions of ranching.
Betty was a vibrant member of her community, actively participating in organizations like the Brush Popper and Team Penning. Her passion for horses was evident as she rode in Spanish Period Dress throughout California, showcasing her love for the equestrian lifestyle.
She is survived by her loving husband, Craig Rulison, and her cherished children: Sara Pritchett and her husband, Troy; Arden Rulison and his wife, Laural. Betty was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Austin Pritchett, Melody Pritchett, Mackenzie Rulison, and Carson Rulison, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Betty's battle with Alzheimer's disease may have taken her from us, but her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She taught us the importance of community and the joy of family gatherings. Those who were privileged to know her will remember her infectious laughter, warm smile, and the countless ways she brightened our lives.
A celebration of life will be held at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 20th at 11 am. A reception luncheon will follow at The Grange Hall.
