With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Barbara Nichols, who left this world peacefully on Sunday September 21st, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 86.
Born on October 27th 1938 in Montebello California, Barbara lived her life with beauty and grace. Married to her beloved husband, John Nichols 47, she unselfishly raised their three children as they became steady fixtures in the Pismo Beach community, where they lived most of their adult lives. Raising their family was always at the center of her heart, and her love reached across generations.
Beyond her devotion to family, Barbara was active in the community and proudly involved with Republican Women, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed her time and energy to causes which were important to her.
After the passing of her husband John Nichols, Barbara bravely battled dementia in her later years. She battled the illness with the same dignity and grace she lived her life. Even as her memory faded, the love she gave and the light she carried never dimmed.
She is survived by her children Cindy Martell, Jeff Nichols (Vanessa Nichols) & Scott Nichols (Sandy Nichols), grandchildren John Nichols, Lindsay Nichols, Jacob Nichols, Johnny Martell & Jarrod Martell, and great-grandchildren Nora Schurkman-Nichols & Hayden Nichols, who will know her strength, compassion, and the countless ways she touched their lives.
Visitation at Marshall Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel will be held on Wednesday October 1st from 4 PM to 7 PM. A private graveside service will take place on October 2nd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made Woods Humane Society of San Luis Obispo.
Though she is gone from our sight, her love will remain with us always.
