Antonio “Tony” Serafim Vieira (75) of Pismo Beach, CA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 30, 2023.
Antonio was born on January 26, 1948, on the island of Terceira in the village of Biscoitos. Azores. He served in the Portuguese Army as a Lieutenant in the Commandos Special Forces Unit. He immigrated to this country from Portugal at the age of 26. He came to America with big dreams and a world of opportunity. He worked hard and enjoyed life to the fullest. He married his loving wife Mary in 1977 in San Jose, CA and had one daughter Monique and two grandsons, Bradley and Jameson. He worked for Hewlett-Packard as a Numerical Control Technician for 25 years. The job relocated the family numerous times from the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Washington State. He ultimately returned to his beloved California, residing in Pismo Beach, and spent much of his final years in Kona, Hawaii.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Serafim & Maria Vieira Homem, brother-in-law’s, Fernando Sousa, Manuel Fagundes, Earl Novo, and Mario Fonseca. He is survived by his wife Mary “Alex” Vieira and daughter, Monique Vieira-Huestis (husband Robert Huestis) and two grandsons Bradley and Jameson. He is also survived by his siblings Lucia Fagundes, Rafaela Fonseca, Gabriela Novo, and Luciano Vieira (wife Yvonne) and sister-in-law Tina da Rocha (husband Fernando), brother-in-law’s Tony Sousa (wife Marilyn), Carl Sousa and many nieces and nephews.
Tony loved to travel, fish, play cards, spend time with his beloved family and friends and always enjoyed a glass of wine or a scotch and a good meal. He was the life of the party. Whether it was a simple gathering, Portuguese festa, fados; Tony could always be found telling a story and talking for hours with friends. He made everyone feel welcome. His memory will live on forever in our hearts and he will be sorely missed.
A rosary, mass and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. The service will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Pismo Beach, 800 Bello Street and a reception in the church’s hall immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Lung Association or American Cancer Society in Antonio’s name.
