Ann Sebastian Obituary

Ann M. Sebastian, 86, passed away on Saturday, December 27th, 2025, at her home in Arroyo Grande.

Funeral Mass to be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Arroyo Grande, on Wednesday, January 7th at 10:00 am, with a Rosary the previous evening, Tuesday, January 6th at 7:00 pm, also at St. Patrick’s Church.

Born on December 12, 1939, in Wellsville, New York, Ann Harrington Michehl moved to Santa Maria, California when she was 7 years old with her mother, Loretto, older brother, Ed, and two younger sisters, Gretchen and Myra. Baby brother Thomas was born in Santa Maria.

Ann made lifelong friends in Santa Maria, where she graduated from Santa Maria High School and Hancock College, going on to complete her Bachelor of Arts in English at Fresno State. After college, Ann married Manuel Sebastian, beginning 64 years of adventure together that included three years in Hawaii, courtesy of the U.S. Navy, and eleven years in different parts of California – Eureka, Bishop, and Quincy – courtesy of the U.S. Forest Service, before finally returning to the central coast in 1976 to settle in Arroyo Grande.

Together with Manuel, Ann raised four children and helped expand and sustain Sebastian Oil. She was a tireless contributor to St. Patrick’s school, St. Joseph’s High School, and St. Patrick’s Church, serving for years on the liturgy committee and with outreach.

Ann was known by all as a sweet and caring person, always willing to help. She was also adventurous and fun-loving. Camping and hiking in the Sierra’s began during the years with the Forest Service and continued until 2022 with two decades of family trips to the cabins at Rock Creek. Ann was also a tireless champion of her children and grandchildren’s wide-ranging sports, from swimming, and marathoning, to soccer, hockey, gymnastics, competitive dance, and skateboarding.

Ann is survived by her husband Manuel Sebastian, her sister Myra Cabe and husband John, as well as her four children – Myra Goryance and husband Joe, Carol Sebastian-Curiel, Colleen Sebastian, Ryan Sebastian and wife Brenda, and her five grandchildren – Sarah Curiel Chow, Daniel Curiel, Jordan Curiel, Joseph Goryance, and Jacob Goryance.

Ann was preceded in death by her brother Ed Michehl, her sister Gretchen Hagwood, and her brother Thomas Charles, killed in Vietnam in 1971.
