Angela Westley
In Memoriam
June 9, 1939 - November 10, 2022
Angela Westley passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 10, 2022. She was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother and will be dearly missed by her partner Tom, her two sons Nicholas and Peter, two daughters-in-law Monica and Lisa, and four grandchildren Aidan, Allison, Syd, and Allie.
Angela emigrated to the US with her husband John and baby in tow from Nottingham, England as a young woman in her early 20’s. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960’s was certainly a dramatic change from the industrial Midlands of the UK, but she embraced the opportunity with open arms.
The original plan was a return move to the UK, but a job opportunity for John in New Jersey prompted a cross-country move. There the adventure continued with a stop in Sarasota, Florida, before moving back to California with partner Tom, first to Orange County and ultimately to Nipomo.
She was an incredibly smart and hard-working person. This led to a very successful career as a top performing residential real estate agent during her time in New Jersey. Upon moving to Southern California, she followed this up with an equally successful career booking events for a cruise ship operator.
More significantly, she was also loving, kind, inquisitive and very funny. She also had great taste in music and her love for the Beatles, Joe Cocker, Richie Havens, Van Morrison, and Bob Dylan greatly influenced her two sons. We all have some great memories of attending concerts together in NYC and Boston.
She was also a great storyteller, a trait that she definitely inherited from her own mother May. She could regale her grandchildren for hours with tales of what it was like to grow up in post- World War II Britain. Fortunately, she will be able to live on with us through several of the tapes that we made of these storytelling sessions.
Another special characteristic of Angela was that she was a great listener. No matter who she was talking to, she always made the other person feel special and important. Several people whom she did not even know all that well have commented on the memorable conversations that they shared.
But the most precious thing to her was the love that she felt for her extended family. There wasn’t a game or other event involving a family member that she would ever miss. She will be sorely missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
