Aileen Baird
1951- 2022
Aileen Baird passed away on May 6th after a long illness. She was born in Bakersfield in 1951 to Dennis and Helen McNamara, the first of three children. After graduating from high school and while in college obtaining her teaching credential Aileen was a part time counselor at a drug rehab program and learned sign language. She was hired when pregnant with her first child to teach second grade at Panama School in Bakersfield. Aileen was devoted to her young students and spent the night before giving birth writing detailed lesson plans.
After moving to Arroyo Grande in 1990 she taught as a long term substitute teacher. Aileen enjoyed being a Scout leader, school volunteer and teaching an after school religious class to young children of St. Patrick’s parish. She loved the ocean and long walks on the beach.
She is survived by Andrew, her husband of 42 years and sons Sean of Hollister, CA and Scott of Sunnyvale, CA. and her brother Joseph McNamara of Upland, CA. Memorial service will be at St. Patrick’s Church in Arroyo Grande on May 20th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
