Vanessa Selenda Fernandes

Vanessa Selena Fernandes, was born March 31, 2003 in San Luis Obispo, to her proud parents Curtis & Lilia Fernandes, and was the love of their lives. Vanessa suffered from a very rare genetic inversion of the X chromosome, which led to severe epilepsy, disability and permanent delay to her development.  Vanessa left this world on June 4, 2017 at 6:30AM in peace with a smile on her face and her family at her side. Vanessa was initially given 18 months to live and battled for 14 years, 2 months and 4 days.  She fought like a true warrior and would never be kept down.  Through her many seizures, surgeries and constant setbacks, Vanessa would continue to work with all her heart and always had a smile on her face.  She was a Princess in so many ways and her raw courage and determination will be sorely missed by many. 

Vanessa leaves behind her loving brother Jeffrey Fernandes and sister Sabrina Fernandes. Vanessa taught them the true meaning of “Special Needs” and what it meant to stand up against bullying and  those who make fun of someone with a handicap.  Vanessa is also survived by her grandparents Tony & Kathleen Fernandes and Sabina De Lane, along with three Aunts Liticia Enriquez, Rhonda Holden Fernandes and Laura Burson Fernandes and two Uncles Dennis & Mark Fernandes and many cousins. 

Services will be held Friday June 9, 2017, 11:00, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, 1239 Longbranch Avenue, Grover Beach, CA 93433.  Viewing and visitation will commence 9:30 am before the Service
