Richard “Dick” Gularte, 72, of Nipomo, California, passed away peacefully in his home, Tuesday, June 25, 2019. Dick was born April 15, 1947 in Arroyo Grande, California to Mary and Rudolph Gularte.
Dick was a valued member of the community. Active in agriculture at a young age, Dick started work at EC Loomis & Son feed store at age 16. He was a member of AGHS FFA, where in 1965 he raised a Grand Champion Sheep. He owned his own hay and feed store, Double D Feed & Supply, which he ran for 20 years, until he moved to Farm Supply, where he worked to this day. From 1969-1975, Dick was a member of the Army National Guard, a long-time member of the Arroyo Grande Optimists Club (presiding as the current President), and San Luis Obispo County Range Improvement.
Dick was a man of varied interests. He loved gardening and hunting. He had a passion for barbecuing and raising cows. After work or on weekends you could usually find him on his tractor or gator, working on his ranch, in his garden, taking care of his cows or attending brandings. He lived life with vigor – his favorite pastimes were giving everyone shit and making them take a shot of Crown Royal. Above all, he loved being a caring father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Dick is survived by his wife, Joan Gularte. They recently celebrated 49 years of marriage. They raised two children, Daniell (John Miller) and Justin Gularte (Amber). Dick is also survived by his granddaughters Jessica Jackson (Devonte), Leah Miller, and Pria Gularte and his great grandchildren Kaydyn and Kierce. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Gularte (Normetta), Darlene Brown (Jack), Judy Madsen, Dennis Gularte (Sissie) and Tina Fiscel (Larry).
