Martin Basti

Martin J. Basti, 62, of Templeton, CA passed away August 7,
2018 peacefully at home with his family.
Martin moved to San Luis Obispo County in 1976 to attend
Cuesta College. He worked as an EMT for Bay and San Luis
Ambulance until he was hired as a dispatcher with the San Luis
County Sheriff Department in 1979. Over the next 33 years
Martin was promoted through the ranks until 2011 when he was
appointed Undersheriff by Sheriff Ian Parkinson and served
until retirement in 2012.
Martin gave a lifetime of service through law enforcement and
volunteering in his community: Bay Osos & Oceano Kiwanis,
Elks, Juvenile Justice, honorary life-time member Bay Osos
Filipino Community Association and a major contributor to
Special Olympics. However, his first priority was his family. He is survived by his wife of 35
years Diane, their two sons and wives, Kyle(Naomi), Aaron(Lindie),and ‘his pride and joy’
grandchildren: Kinley, 2, Kayden, 1 and his soon to be born grandson Austin, sister Meri Jayne Basti,
brother Marc(Pam) Basti, & nephew Chris. He was preceded in death by his parents: Melvin and
Marilyn Basti.
A Celebration of life for Martin will be held on September 9, 2018, at 10:00AM at the San Luis
Obispo Elks Lodge #322 located at 222 Elks Lane, San Luis Obispo, Ca 93401.
