Margaret Ellen “Peg” Hensley passed away suddenly on October 17, 2017. Peg was born 1937 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Alex Pauly and Lavina O’Loughlin Pauly. Peg had a humble upbringing, helping her mother and her siblings Alice, Bob, Larry, and Judy run their family’s small country store in in Marystown, MN that had a gas pump out front, hardware and groceries inside and a bar that sold beer and pop.  Her dad sold the Marystown store in 1948 and in 1949 purchased a store in Sobieski, MN.  Her father passed away in 1951 and her mother had to run the store and raise the five children.  Peg graduated from St. Francis High School in Little Falls, MN.  She had a calling to help others and made a career of it after graduating from St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge, Minnesota in 1958. Peg moved to California and met the love of her life, Bruce Hensley, in 1960. The two were destined for one another, as they married one year later. The lovebirds even worked together until retirement at the California Men’s Colony, she as a nurse and he as a guard, a love story for the ages fifty six years in the making. Peg and Bruce settled down in the small town of Arroyo Grande in 1974 with their two boisterous boys, Marcus and Michael. Tragically, Marcus passed away in 1989, leaving a rift in the Hensley family. After Marc’s passing, Peg found solace and joy in her gardening and caring for her three grandchildren, Nicole, Kayla, and Steven. The trio became her world, and she instilled in them her indomitable spirit, her fearlessness, and her kindness. After her grandchildren had grown, she and Bruce spent their time together volunteering and serving others at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Martha Ministry, Outreach, and as members of the Italian Catholic Federation. Peg never once hesitated to help others in need. Her home was always open, and it was a guarantee that no one would leave hungry. She spoke her mind unabashedly and was always true to herself and others. Peg was as genuine and generous as anyone could ever be. She carried herself with pride, grace, and humility. Peg’s example lives on through her husband Bruce, her son Michael and his wife Lisa, her three grandchildren, and countless others who her life touched. Her services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 30th at St. Patrick’s Church with a reception immediately following in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Church Martha Ministry or St. Patrick’s Outreach.
