J. Harold Headrick, 81, of San Luis Obispo, died peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Sydney Creek with his son by his side.  He was born to Harvey James and Clara Lena Headrick in Raleigh, Miss., in 1935.  Harold attended Hinds Junior College, graduating with honors, and received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Mississippi State University.  He met his future wife, Clydean Nichols, in Jackson, Miss., while she was attending the nursing school at Baptist Hospital; they were married for 57 years.  He felt the call to enter the ministry and attended Emory University's Candler School of Theology to become a United Methodist minister. After having served churches in Mississippi, Harold, Clydean and their son, David, moved west. For 25 years, he and Clydean faithfully served churches in Arizona and California.  In 1989, Harold and Clydean returned to Mississippi to be with family and again served churches, until he retired in 2002 to move back to California to be with their grandchildren.  While in Arroyo Grande, Harold served in retirement as a Minister of Visitation for the United Methodist Church.

Harold is survived by his son, David H. Headrick; two grandchildren, Joseph and Claire; nephew Jimmy and nieces Amanda and Julie, and many cousins and extended family.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Clydean; his parents; his brother, James R. Headrick; and many cherished aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, at the First United Methodist Church of Arroyo Grande, 275 N. Halcyon Road in Arroyo Grande. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
