Donald Gullickson Obituary

Donald (Don) Gullickson passed away on January 17, 2018.  Don was born in Arroyo Grande, California on June 8, 1926 to Ole and Florence Gullickson.  He was raised in Arroyo Grande and attended Arroyo Grande Elementary and Arroyo Grande High School.  After completing his junior year at High School he volunteered for service in U.S. Navy, he always told his family that was the only way he was guaranteed on getting a diploma.  He served in the South and Central Pacific on the destroyer U.S.S. Bancroft, DD 598 as a Radar Man.

 

In 1945 he married Doris Jones of Arroyo Grande, California after discharge from the U.S. Navy and he began his career

working for Union Oil Co.

 

Don served as a trustee of Arroyo Grande School Board and as a member of the Arroyo Grande Planning Commission.  He was awarded a lifetime membership in the PTA and was a charter member of the Oceano 5 Cities Elks and a longtime volunteer with the South County Historical Society.

 

After retiring in 1984 from Union Oil of Thailand he returned to Arroyo Grande.

 

He is survived by three daughters Linda Wilson (Gerald) of Santa Maria, CA, Gail Ellis of Medford, OR, Janet Heim, Taft, CA, 5 grandchildren David Wilson (Lorraine), Robert Ellis, Dennis Ellis (Celina), Heidi Archibald, Chad Collier, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

 

He was predeceased by parents Florence and Ole Gullickson, wife Doris Gullickson and Grandson Evan Wilson.

 

In lieu of flowers a remembrance to Mission Hope Cancer Center Transportation, Santa Maria or South County Historical Society, Arroyo Grande would be appreciated.

 

There will be no public Funeral Service.
