For the past 40 years, Papa treated me as a son even though 20 were a time in life that nobody should have been supportive and encouraging to me. He never gave up on me even when I gave up.
I will always honor him in my life as the dad that loved me no matter what.
George has company to keep an eye on us all up in heaven,
Just remember how many family we have cheering us on up there.
I know Papa just got to see Grandma again, he really loves her, a great reunion is happening a great celebration welcoming Papa home.
We will all be together in Paradise together soon.
Love Darrell

Jim was a great man, a great friend, and a wonderful step-dad. Widely and affectionately known as Grumpy, his marshmallow center made a lie of his crusty shell. He loved his family, blood and by marriage, and if he was your friend, you knew you were special to be included in his chosen circle. He would do anything for those he loved, and never asked for anything in return. I will miss his wry sense of humor, and his companionship. He truly was a father to me, and I appreciated his "adoption " of me, and that he was truly a grandfather to my children. Say hello to George and to Grandma Angel for us, Jim. We miss you. All our love, Robin and Paul

THE FINAL INSPECTION - James “Jim” W Darling, USMC

Jim, the “Marine” stood and faced God, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, just as brightly as his brass, “Step forward now, Marine, how shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?”

Jim squared his shoulders and said, “No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, that wasn't mine to keep. Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place, among the people here.
They never wanted me around, except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.”

There was a silence all around the throne, where the saints had often trod.
As Jim, the “Marine” waited quietly, for the judgment of his God, “Step forward now, you Marine, you've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, you've done your time in Hell.”

TAPS
James “Jim” W Darling, USMC

Day is done.
Gone the sun.
From the lakes
From the hills.
From the sky.
All is well.
Safely rest.
God is nigh.

Fading light.
Dims the sight.
And a star.
Gems the sky.
Gleaming bright.
From afar.
Drawing nigh.
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise.
For our days.
Neath the sun
Neath the stars.
Neath the sky
As we go.
This we know.
God is nigh

Bobbie, Jan and I want to express our deepest condolences to you and your family. Jim was a good friend. In his own way, he did have a sense of humor and he was fun to be with. He will be deeply missed.
