Welcome to the memorial page for

Andy Bloom

September 24, 1970 ~ July 6, 2017 (age 46) 46 Years Old

Andrew ‘Andy’ Martin Bloom was born September 24, 1970 in Buffalo, NY and passed into God’s hands on July 6, 2017 with his parents at his side in Grover Beach, CA.

Andy grew up in Grover Beach from age 7, where he attended Grover Heights Elementary, Judkins Middle School, Arroyo Grande High School (Class of ’89) and Cuesta College. Andy’s home was in Grover Beach, at the beach and at the golf course. He didn’t travel much, but enjoyed snowboarding and fishing trips.

One beautiful blessing of life for Andy was his daughter Maranda. Andy was not one to talk much, but he was a loyal father, son, brother and friend. Life for Andy was about providing for his family and bringing his quick wit and humor to everything he did. Andy touched many through his years in sports, including youth soccer, Beach Cities Little League and All-Stars Baseball, Judkins basketball, AGHS football and baseball, coaching for his daughter’s softball team, surfing and golfing. Andy was proud to be on the AGHS Eagles football team that captured the CIF Northwestern Division championship for the first CIF football title in the school’s history.

Andy made many friends on the golf course and spent much of his free time there. He became quite proficient at golf over the last few years. He even practiced his putting while undergoing treatments in LA.

Andy’s career was in construction. He was a general contractor and owned a framing business (AMB Construction) and was most recently employed with Specialty Construction Inc.

In mid 2016, Andy was diagnosed with tongue cancer. He had been enduring headaches and migraines for a few months before the discovery. Over the last year, Andy bravely, with humor and great resolve, endured multiple surgeries and treatments. The pain continued and the cancer spread. His persistence and optimism was immense. Andy’s passing was sudden and unexpected as treatments and recovery continued.

Andy leaves behind his daughter Maranda, 21, of Arroyo Grande; father Jesse ‘Rich’ Bloom and mother Anita ‘Nita’ Bloom of Grover Beach; sister Jessica Bloom of Bakersfield; brother Scott Bloom and Kenji Matsuoka of Nipomo; and various aunts, uncles and cousins. Andy was grateful to spend time with friends and family at the Drive Out Cancer Golf Tournament at his second home, the golf course.

Andy will be deeply missed. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Black Lake Golf Resort (1490 Golf Course Ln, Nipomo, CA 93444). Desserts and refreshments to be served. Wonderful memories of his life will serve to ease the pain and sadness felt by all those blessed to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, the family has created a fund to be used as a scholarship in honor of Andy for AGHS athletes. Contributions may be made at https://www.gofundme.com/AndyBloomScholarship or at the celebration of life on July 23.
